Steer to be determined
The Boston Marathon starts in Hopkinton. For the other 364 days, you can begin nature walks in Cameron Woods and its wildlife sanctuaries that dwarf 250 acres. Our home of the week is located on a 12 house cul-de-sac adjacent to Cameron Woods.
The 5,641-square-foot farmhouse sits on 2.59 acres with a bluestone and granite slab entrance that ends in a porch big enough for several rocking chairs. The front door opens to a two-story, 189-square-meter entrance with a stairwell and the dining room on the left and a door on the right to a must-have for remote work: a private office.
The office is 177 square feet and has an almost perfect square shape. There is ample natural light from two windows overlooking the front garden and from a second pair to the right of the house. The latter frame a gas fireplace with a white wooden ledge. This space also shares two common features of the first floor: hardwood floors and three-quarter-high plank and lath wall paneling.
Across the foyer, the dining room (237 square feet) features the same paneling, plus a coffered ceiling, three windows, and a wrought-iron chandelier with lights that mimic candles.
At the back of the house you will find a family room which is open to the kitchen. Combined, the two areas cover 877 square feet, accounting for 40 percent of the level’s 2,112 total square feet. The family room features a hardwood floor accented with a thin mahogany inlay. The second of the home’s two gas fireplaces anchors the space beneath a coffered tongue-and-groove ceiling and is flanked by windows.
Uber customization is the new trend that is bringing home design.
Luxury in the City: What about $3 million will get you in and around Boston
Just before the kitchen begins, there is a door to a deck and the backyard next to a trio of windows. A metal drum shade light here marks the best spot to set a table for an informal meal.
A long granite-topped island provides visual separation from the living and dining areas and features a walnut base with sides that look like barn doors and a pair of gold-and-black shell pendant lights.
The granite kitchen counters and gray cabinets line each kitchen wall. The farmer’s kitchen sink sits beneath a casement window and comes with a black faucet to match the cabinet hardware. The backsplash is ceramic tile, and the high-end appliances, including dual ovens, are stainless steel. The extractor hood is framed in walnut to match the open shelves in one corner of the kitchen. There is also a dry bar with wine fridge, granite counter, barn door surround cabinets, open shelving with under lighting and picture lighting. A butler’s pantry connects the kitchen and formal dining room.
There is a walk-in pantry with custom shelving in a shiplap clad hallway off the kitchen, leading in one direction to a bedroom suite and half bath and a mudroom with closets, bench and closet in the other direction. The bedroom (283 square feet) has three windows, a slider to the backyard, a double closet, crown molding and recessed lighting. The en-suite bath features a ceramic tile surround shower with frameless glass doors, vinyl tile flooring and a single granite countertop vanity.
The other bedrooms in the house are on the second floor at the top of the wooden staircase with underfloor lighting.
The primary suite is on the right side of the house. It has a sleeping area of 324 square meters, a dressing room of 108 square meters and a bathroom of 209 square meters. The bedroom features hardwood floors, plank and slat paneling, a tray ceiling, and a ceiling fan. The full bath has a feature that is particularly popular in luxury apartments at this time of year: a tiled floor with radiant heat. It also offers a double vanity with quartz countertop, a soaking tub and a walk-in shower with glass doors and a ceramic tile surround.
The remaining three-bedroom suites (they have attached baths) range in size from 196 to 268 square feet.
A 393 square foot bonus room and the laundry room complete this floor.
The completed basement offers a total of 1,206 square meters of living and storage space. The main attraction is an 833-square-foot media room with recessed lighting, luxurious vinyl plank floors, and a slider to the backyard. In addition to an exercise room, this level also houses the final full bath – with a ceramic tile-lined shower, a single vanity with a dark granite counter, and ceramic tile floor.
Stairs in the basement lead to the attached three car garage, as does a door in the mudroom.
Propane gas is used for heating, fireplaces and gas range.
